Channing Tatum is hoping that Gambit can have his standalone film.
Tatum has been keen on playing the playing card wielding Gambit for a while, and it’s close to becoming a reality.
While nothing has been confirmed as yet, the actor revealed that things are ‘starting to chug forward’.
He added that a Gambit film would work as an origin film in a similar vein to X-Men Origins: Wolverine first, before possibly having him join the other X-Men in future films.
‘Obviously there’s nothing official’ he told Empire, ‘There are only conversations and dreams right about now, really.
‘I’ve been pretty vocal about wanting to be the part of Gambit for a very long time. It’s a weird, pinching-myself moment that we’re even having the conversation.’
He went on: ‘We’ve talked about it being a standalone, first, and actually trying to change the “hero” superhero movie. Because Gambit is not your typical hero. He’s a thief. He walks on the grey. I’m hoping we can change it a little bit, and then ultimately feather into the other ones.’
